Passion week - The Suffering Servant - Matthew 27:45-47
This message takes us deep into the heart of Christ's suffering on the cross, particularly focusing on His anguished cry, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' This wasn't a moment of confusion or defeat, but rather a cry filled with multiple layers of meaning. First, it was a cry of genuine pain—physical, mental, and spiritual agony as Jesus bore the weight of humanity's sin. Second, it fulfilled ancient prophecy, specifically Psalm 22, which vividly described the crucifixion centuries before it occurred. Third, it demonstrated Jesus' unwavering purpose—even in His darkest moment, He was thinking of those He came to save, quoting Scripture that would reveal His true identity as the Messiah to those watching. Most remarkably, we learn that Jesus wasn't delirious or losing control; He was passionately focused on redemption. The blood shed that day still has power today—power to cleanse, heal, deliver, and transform. This isn't just ancient history; it's a present reality that invites us to trust God's purposes even when we don't understand our circumstances.
