Beatitudes - Trusting God: Radical Dependence

What would it look like to live free from anxiety’s grip? In Matthew 6:25–34, Jesus calls us not to a careless life, but to a life of trust. Coming immediately after his warning that we cannot serve both God and money, these words challenge us to consider what truly rules our hearts. Through the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, Jesus reveals the generous care of our heavenly Father. He also draws an important distinction between faithful concern and consuming anxiety. It is right to care about others, our responsibilities and living faithfully. But anxiety turns our attention inward, allowing our own security and comfort to control us. Jesus invites us to seek first God’s kingdom and to place our fears, responsibilities and uncertainties into the Father’s hands. As we learn to trust his care, we are set free to love God and serve those around us.
